Bonzo Too
We were forced to find a new home for Bonzo by Rob & Bernie, that popular couple from Cornmworthy - they have complained about every dog in Cornworthy, but could only mount a sustained campaign against people from `Tuckenhay because we fortunately never see them.
A few months ago their breeding bitch escaped into the village again, and for some reason they accused Bonzo of doing the business with her and demanded we pay £50 for vet's fees, which we naturally did not. Nearly every time their bitch goes on heat they find a local dog to complain about, unaware that there are going to be certain inconveniences when you breed in the middle of a village surrounded by working farms !
On 30th January Rob phoned us up, said he had Bonzo locked in his garage and that if we did not give him £50 he would hand Bonzo in to the police, and that he was going to continue to do this every time he saw him. I said we would not be blackmailed and drove round to collect Bomzo by which time he had already taken Bonzo to the police station. Bernie, however, did an amusing Coronation Street style cameo of standing in the street screaming abuse which I declined to take part in. I told the council, the dog warden and the police what had happened and collected Bonzo from the police station.
At 2pm on 1st February they picked Bonzo up again and he
was kept over-night by the dog warden. We have realised they intend to carry
out their threat and that they will make Bonzo's life intolerable if he remains
here. We are not interested in a dispute with near-neighbours, so we wanted
to solve the situation instantly. Rob & Bernie are not acting illegally,
as any dog on public ground unsupervised at any time is legally stray, and
if someone decides to take responsibility for it. one option is to hand it
over to the dog warden.
