We are extremely fortunate to be located in such a beautiful part of Devon, overlooking Bow Creek, surrounded by a huge variety of interesting places to explore and activities to enjoy.
There are plenty of fabulous walks right on your doorstep for which we sell maps from the bar.
Totnes, Dartmouth and Dartmoor National Park are only a short drive away, as are the stunning South Devon beaches of Salcombe, Hope Cove, Slapton Sands, Bantham and Blackpool Sands, to name but a few.
Presenting good fun to young and old aboard guided 9 and 12-seat Voyager canoes on the wonderful River Dart in South Devon. Canoe guides and equipment, tea, coffee and hot chocolate are included. The canoes go from and to the slipway beside the Maltsters Arms.

Neil Halsey Shooting/Rifle/Archery Instruction
Neil Halsey A.I.C.S.I. caters for all aspects of beginner instruction and coaching guns to improve shooting skills and techniques. Neil also works with the Wheeldon Offroad Bike Centre near Totnes – supplying the clay shooting, archery , air rifling and other activities at Wheeldon Farm.
The English Riviera’s largest passenger boat operator in Torbay and home of WW2 Heritage Ship ‘Fairmile’. Sightseeing and fishing trips, wildlife Seafari excursions and a ferry service between Totnes, Dartmouth, Dittisham, Brixham, Paignton and Torquay.
The South Devon Railways
A seven mile former Great Western Railway branch line, built in 1872, which runs along the stunning valley of the River Dart between Buckfastleigh and Totnes. They run steam trains with heritage rolling stock and offer a wonderful all day attraction for families and people of all ages.
If you are looking for a fun day out on the water but have no previous experience and want to know how to kayak then Totnes Kayaks is for you. The villages of Dittisham, Tuckenhay or Sharpham and Totnes and Dartmouth towns can be paddled to easily from Stoke Gabriel and are real highlights in the South Hams.
Dartmouth Steam Railway & River Boat Company
See the surrounding area by boat, bus and steam train. The Round Robin is the best way to explore South Devon! You visit the quaint towns of Paignton, Dartmouth and Totnes travelling on a steam train, a river boat and a bus. Their paddle steamer Kingswear Castle is the last remaining coal-fired paddle steamer in operation in the UK today.
Agatha Christie’s Greenway House
Agatha Christie loved nothing better than escaping with her family to Greenway, their Devon holiday home. A visit to Greenway will take visitors, all of whom will be encouraged to arrive by green transport, on a 1950s holiday, painting an intimate portrait of Agatha Christie not only as a writer, but as a mother, wife and hostess.
Dartmouth Golf and Country Club
There are two golf courses at the Dartmouth Golf & Country Club and they present a challenging contrast; the 18 hole Championship golf course, whilst the 9 hole course is one not to be missed. They also have a driving range. Open to non-members.
Staverton Riding School
Tuition and hacking for all ages and abilities in a relaxed and friendly environment, with qualified and experienced staff. Pony Days (full or half) for pony-mad kids, lesson and mini-hack combination for younger ones, and Starter Hacks that are ideal for families and groups, with a short lesson then a quiet hack.
Sharpham Vineyard & Cheese Dairy
Visit the vineyard and winery set in a stunning location above the River Dart. Sample the International award winning red and white wines. Watch cheese making through viewing window. Take a guided tour around the vineyard and learn the history and principles behind growing grapes in our cool climate.
Otter and Butterfly Sanctuary
An educational and fun day out. Learn about tropical butterflies in the specially designed habitat of which you become part. In the Otter Sanctuary there are three species of otter to see, our native British otter, the playful Asian short clawed otters and the large North American river otters who love to show off. Make sure to bring your camera.
